I realized today how ridiculously behind we were on laundry, so I declared today a laundry day. I never knew how much fun kids can have doing laundry! I usually try to get it done as quickly as possible so we can play, but today we actually made laundry a game in two different ways…
The Sock Matching Game
I gathered up all the socks and dumped them in a pile in the middle of the room and had the kids match them up. When they found a pair we hummed a little victory song to celebrate! Sounds simple, but it was really fun and I got all those pesky socks matched up.
Clothes Delivery
Once all the laundry was folded and upstairs, I told my son to wait in his room while my daughter and I brought the clothes into another room. I gave her little piles of clothes to bring to her brother and say “Special Delivery! Please put these away.” or “Sock Delivery” or as my son likes to say “Speedy Delivery”. Then we switched and my son brought clothes to my daughter. They thought this game was hilarious for some reason! So I went with it… All of a sudden the clothes were put away and I didn’t have two kids nagging for me to play with them while I tried to finish the laundry!!
The other day my mom reminded me how every day tasks can be made into games so everyone can have fun while accomplishing something. Thanks mom! We had a good day.
Do any of you make chores into games? I would love to hear about it!

What great ideas. Thanks for sharing! I have an entire laundry basket full of odd socks waiting to be matched … time to involve my preschooler! And she loves when I deliver mail to her playhouse, so I bet she’d like the delivery part, too .. now I just need to get a bigger dresser, lower to the ground, so she can truly help!
