Your 2026-27 Guide to Children’s Theater and Live Performances in Chicagoland

There’s nothing quite like live theater, especially when the whole family can enjoy it. From professional children’s theater with adult performers to productions starring young actors, Chicagoland has a fantastic lineup of kid-friendly shows in the city and suburbs, and we’ve taken the guesswork out of searching “children’s theater near me.”

Below you’ll find live theater, dance performances, classical music, and shows at children’s theater schools and high schools. Looking for The Nutcracker or A Christmas Carol? Those have their own guide to holiday theater for kids.

We update this list throughout the year as theaters announce their seasons, so check back often. For even more ideas, explore our map of things to do with kids in Chicagoland.
