CirqueShanghai Mulan's Dragon Drums

We recently went to “Cirque Shanghai: Dragon’s Thunder” at the Navy Pier® Pepsi® Skyline Stage and totally loved it! Not only were both my kids captivated by it, my husband and I kept looking at each other in awe and disbelief! Besides all the jaw dropping acrobatics and stunts from last year (which were completely amazing- check out the review here) they added “The Chinese Flex Bar,” “Gravity Swings,” and traditional Chinese “Dragon Drums,” which definitely add to the show experience.

Cirque Shanghai Shoulder BalletThe Navy Pier® Pepsi® Skyline Stage as the venue was so enjoyable too! It’s an open air theater with an overhead canopy and all of the seats are great. It’s a perfect place to take kids to see Cirque Shanghai because they can sit fairly close to all of the exciting tumbling, juggling, balancing and beautiful costumes of the performers! Also, there is a parking garage that is connected to the theater area as well as a food court very close by, which makes it really convenient.

“Cirque Shanghai: Dragon’s Thunder” is going to have an additional performance on Thursday, July 4, with performances at 2 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. So you can go to the show and stay for the Navy Pier July 4 fireworks celebration, which begins at 9pm. The performances on Wednesday, July 3 will be performed according to the regular schedule at 2, 6 and 8 p.m.

Cirque Shanghai Wheel of DestinyThe show runs through September 2, 2013 (Labor Day) rain or shine, at the Navy Pier® Pepsi® Skyline Stage, the 1,500-seat, canopied, open-air theater on Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave. Tickets are $15.50 – $29.50 and are available via Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or www.ticketmaster.com/shanghai. Discounted tickets for groups of 10 or more are currently available by calling GroupTix at 773.327.3778 or visiting www.grouptix.net.

Lego supermanBrickworld Chicago starts tomorrow! We went to the preview tonight… there is so much to see and do! The intricacies of the Lego creations was beyond impressive; my son just stood in front of them in awe.

Our favorites were the Battle Trax Mono-rail Battle Challenge where the kids could build their own vehicle to challenge another on the rail…

and the Great Ball Contraption where various Lego creations carry, transport and launch balls from one section to the next in a gigantic loop spanning several tables.

The trains are always fun to watch and are found throughout.

splash pads

There is a new splash pad in Hodgkins and the Oak Brook Park District is building a new wading pool and splash pad! Check out the new information as well as the complete list of splashing fun below. For the purpose of this list, I consider splash pads, spray parks, and fountains to be smaller areas without a pool that kids can splash around for free or a minimal fee. If you are looking for water parks, click here.

Ty Warner Park Spray Park
700 Blackhawk Drive
Westmont, IL 60559
(630) 969-8080
great spray park surrounded by a sandy area and parks, can get busy but there are picnic tables and umbrellas if you can snag one.

Burr Ridge Village Center fountain
701 Village Center Drive
Burr Ridge, IL 60527
(630) 654-2782
perfect for little kids, little fountains spraying from the ground allows kids to run through the water or fill up buckets- whatever they feel like doing after some great shopping :) there is a grassy area where you can set up a blanket and it’s a little known spot so it’s calm and peaceful. don’t get your hopes up, it’s not huge and exciting, but kids absolutely love it.

Splash Harbor
Hodgkins Park District
8997 Lyons Street
Hodgkins, IL 60525
(708) 354-6563
This new splash pad is located off Kane Road and Lyons Street. I haven’t had the opportunity to check it out yet, so let me know how it is!
From Kidlist read Joan: “We just went to splash pad at hodgkins! $3 for a day pass. Adults can sit on lounge chairs. Great for little ms older kids really nice and clean and safe..they have a great water slide for young kids!” Thanks Joan!!

Cermak Family Aquatic Center
7600 W Ogden Avenue
Lyons, IL 60534
lazy river, a large pool with a tunnel slide, sprays and dunking buckets and a splash pad with a toddler slide and assorted water works

Pelican Harbor
200 S. Lindsey Lane
Bolingbrook, IL 60440
(630) 739-1705
this one has a parent tot play time for kids 7 and under, so I’m going to include it in both lists. it’s earlier in the morning so you can go before nap time, it’s cheaper than regular admission and you don’t have to deal with protecting your little one from the rowdy older ones.

The Oak Brook Park District Family Aquatic Center
1450 Forest Gate Road
Oak Brook, IL 60523
(630) 990-4233
A new outdoor wading pool and splash pad is currently under construction and is expected to be complete in the beginning of July. You can see a drawing of the plan here.

Oakbrook Terrace Park District Splash Pad

Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181
(630) 627-6100

Soehrman Park
Intersection of Willow Springs Road and Hillsdale Road
Countryside, IL 60525
splash pad with adjacent park
I would say that this spray park is not for toddlers and babies, more for older children (maybe starting at 4 or 5 years old?) because the water comes our with fairly high pressure
