sheep dessert

Ruthie sent me this picture of the adorable sheep dessert she made for Easter along with the directions. What a cute idea! And the ingredients are really good too…

Ingredients:

  • Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies
  • Marshmallow Fluff
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Mini peanut butter cups

Directions:

  1. Take one Pepperidge Farm Milano cookie, coat the top with Marshmallow Fluff and stick mini marshmallows to the coated cookie. Flip the cookie over and do the same to the other side to make the body.
  2. Adhere four mini peanut butter cups with Marshmallow Fluff for the feet.
  3. Use one Milano cookie for the head, again using Fluff to attach two mini marshmallows and mini chocolate chips for the eyes and two mini marshmallows for the ears.

I’m sure you and your kids are going to love making and eating them!

I don’t know about you, but this has been a really long winter for me! I feel like it’s been cold and dreary for so long, so I looked at the 10 day forecast in hope of a change… and guess what?! Next weekend it’s supposed to reach 50 degrees!! I was so excited that we sat down and did a little craft project making paper flowers. Okay, maybe I’m jumping the gun, but a girl can dream, right? :) Anyway, this was a simple and fun way to make paper flowers that have some dimension to them.

First, cut a few circles out of colored paper. They don’t have to be perfect by any means, however if you are making a flower with multiple colored layers it’s best if they are different sizes (about 1/2 inch to an inch different in diameter). Then make cut marks around the perimeter into the circle. The wider the sections, the thicker the individual petals will be.

Then roll up each section around the circle with a pencil.

Layer the curled circles to create a multidimensional flower and glue a cotton ball in the middle.

I was also happy to hear that Oak Park Conservatory is having a KidsFest “Happy BirdDay!” family event tomorrow (Sunday, March 3, 2012) from 10am-2pm so we can enjoy some real spring flowers. Read the description below:

Join us in celebrating the “Happy BirdDay” of George, our double yellow-head Amazon parrot, who lives in the Conservatory’s Tropical Garden House. This family event is free and includes hands-on educational activities for children and a chance for them to explore a tropical rain forest and other eco-climates. Get a jump on springtime by enjoying some of the early spring flowers on display at the conservatory.

FAMILY SERVICE PREVENTION, EDUCATION & COUNSELING
Family Service seeks to be the leader in providing effective, responsive and innovative programs of human services. Family service assists individuals, families and communities in positively adapting to the ever-changing landscape of today’s society. It is committed to the people it serves, to advancement of the field of practice and to proactive identification and response to changing societal needs. Services are available in both English and Spanish and are available regardless of the individual’s ability to pay. “Family Service: Prevention, Education and Counseling has been providing high-quality, effective social services to area residents for the past 82 years,” said Paul Dean, executive director for the organization, which provides counseling, specialized services for seniors and caregivers, and programs for Latino students and their families. “It’s through the generosity of area residents, coming together through Northbrook Court and Make It Better magazine, that we’re able to continue to serve the nearly 6,000 clients and families we reach annually with low- and no-cost programs.”

THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION – GREATER ILLINOIS CHAPTER
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the world’s leader in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis. The Foundation funds more CF research than any other organization, and nearly every CF drug available today was made possible because of Foundation support. Based in Bethesda, Md., the Foundation also supports and accredits a national care center network that has been recognized by the National Institutes of Health as a model of care for a chronic disease. The CF Foundation is a donor-supported nonprofit organization. “Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s mission is to find a cure for the disease and improve the quality of life for those with cystic fibrosis,” said David Oshinski, development director for the organization. “We urgently need the public’s continued support to fulfill our mission of funding life-saving research and working to provide access to quality care and effective therapies.”
